About the ReelDance Festival |
The ReelDance International Dance on Screen Festival has been Australia's largest event celebrating the art of dance film and video. Presented biennially from 2000 to 2010, the festival promoted exemplary local and international dance screen work, and represented a diverse variety of dance genres from contemporary through to classical forms.
Situated between the performing arts and film culture, the festival catered to both dance and film audiences with a focus on screen musicals, music videos and contemporary dance on screen. These genres cover the breadth and depth of the art form, from the rich cinematic history of the film musical through to popular dance forms and experimental video techniques featured in music acclaimed filmmakers such as Henry Chalfant, Sophie Fiennes, Antony Atanasio, Octavio Iturbe, Andrew Lancaster, Spike Jonze and John Smith; choreographers: Wim Vandekeybus, Anna Teresa de Keersmaeker, Lloyd Newson, Jonathan Burrows and Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui and companies: Ultima Vez, DV8 Dance Theatre, Ballet Frankfurt, Black Grace and Les Ballets C de la B. |
