The Rape of the Sabine Women, Eve Sussman & The Rufus Corporation

OPENING NIGHT
Program Duration: 1.5 hours

We Have Decided Not to Die
Daniel Askill (Australia, 11.30 mins, 2004)

We Have Decided Not to Die is a modern day allegorical triptych. Three figures undergo transformation through three rituals: Birth, Between and Rebirth. Though not a story in any conventional sense, We Have Decided Not To Die's visual poetry captivates just the same, evoking a surreal ritualistic world, whose characters appear to float free of space and time. “Ten minutes to die for.  A breath taking, burnished triptych.” Sydney Morning Herald

The Rape of the Sabine Women

Eve Sussman and the Rufus Corporation (USA, 80 mins, 2006)

The Rape of the Sabine Women is a re-interpretation of the Roman myth, updated and set in the idealistic 1960’s. Filmed with a cast of hundreds and shot on location in Athens and Hydra, Greece, and in Berlin, Germany, this sensual and evocative eighty minute video was directed by Eve Sussman with an original score by Jonathan Belper, choreography by Claudie De Serpa Soares, and costumes by Karen Young.
